Baird Bay
Baird Bay was along a string of unpaved roads that cut through emerald green fields. Some of the fields had sheep grazing; one herd had numerous lambs leaping and bounding about with playful energy.
We passed a few of those old stone ruins that are so much a feature of South Australia, and even a small cemetery. Here headstones lay as testament to strangers’ lives: husbands and wives buried together, four-month-old babies, young adults and old people. It looked rather strange out there in the middle of a field.
We finally arrived in Baird Bay, a thriving community of about seven houses set along silky waters and sandy dunes.
