Yellow tailed Black Cockatoo
The creaks of protest from the blackwood tree, as strips are torn out by the yellow tailed black cockatoos, is a gentle accompaniment to the harsh calls as the cockatoos call to one another.
Flocks of 5 to 10 yellow tailed black cockatoos are visiting at the moment, their
strident calls drift across the forest top as the flock chooses a wattle tree to feed on. They then settle in and rip strips off the tree to get to the grubs within. The ground below becomes littered with bark and wood as they chew their way into the tunnels of the grubs in the tree. Then with more shrill calls and a graceful, undulating flight they are off to continue feeding elsewhere.
