Canyon Walk at Bright
The Canyon walk is a 3km (1.5 hour) circular walk from Bright town centre that takes you along the Ovens river.
Bright is situated within easy reach of the Alpine National Park and the nearby snow fields of Mt Hotham, Falls Creek and Mt Buffalo. Its a great place to visit with plenty of festivals to celebrate every season, so you can guarantee that there is always something going on.
Bright offers a wide range of outdoor activities to suit all ages and abilities, but if hang-guiding, abseiling or caving really isn't your cup of tea then you could try one of the short circular walks that showcases different aspects of Bright's scenic views and local history.
The Canyon walk is just one of many short walks located in and around the town of Bright. It starts at 'Star Bridge' and you can park your car just behind the Visitor Information Center on the banks of the Ovens river then simply follow the river to your left and it will take you to 'Star Bridge' and the start of the Canyon Walk.
The walk follows the Ovens river and takes you along side the canyon. Its a fairly easy walk (depending on your mobility) and the track is well kept. There is plenty of bird life and wild flowers to view along the way plus various informative signs that explain a little about the local history and the early miners who worked along the banks of the river cutting water races out of solid rock. Its truly amazing what those early miners achieved and this walk really highlights the efforts made by those miners in the search for and recovery of Gold.
All in all its a very informative and enjoyable walk and a great way to spend a couple of hours. Its also just enough time to build up an appetite for sampling some of the great restaurants and cafes in Bright - Have fun!
