The charm of the Acheron Valley, Victoria
The Acheron Valley, around an hours drive east of Melbourne and over the Black Spur, is an icon of Victoria waiting to be discovered. Offering a 'nature based' experience, the Acheron Valley provides city dwellers a place to really escape the daily grind and to get back in touch with nature.
At the heart of the Acheron Valley is a pretty little town, Buxton. Buxton is centrally located close to the Cathedral Range with its spectacular views and varied walks.
Also in the area is the Buxton Hotel which is frequented for lunch by travellers going to or returning from, Lake Eildon.
Lake Eildon is not as empty as the papers might have you believe. The arm of the lake nearest to the Acheron Valley has plenty of water and is attracting more ski boats to the area by the day over the summer months.
Other attractions in the area worth a look in are the General Store and Coffee shop, Buxton trout and Salmon farm, or the spectaular spot called the meeting of the waters.
Buxton has much to offer the traveller, it is also in close proximity to the nearby towns of Marysville, Taggerty Alexandra and Narbethong.
Marysville with its many and varied restaurants is a short trip along a very picturesque country road. Also Lake Mountain, famous for its winter cross country skiing and summer bushwalking.
