Australia Day Long Weekend - Day Two to Four
The muscles were starting to feel a little stiff due to the physical activity and beer over the past 24 hours, but children don't know that... so we started the day bright and early.
The best thing about traveling with couples who have children is they also have to follow the same routine. So it wasn't just me feeling the pain. Those without kids tend to rise a little later. I remember those days fondly.
Eggs and bacon on the BBQ, coffee brewing on the stove, kids fed, sun getting warmer and it was time to get on with the day.
What to do?
Each day at Wimbi followed the same theme. We woke early, ate and played until the younger children slept or it was warm enough to swim.
We constructed 3 shades down on the river bank which stayed permanently positioned for the duration of our stay.
Most of the time was spent lazing under the shades, swimming or skiing. We were fortunate to have the Trembath's and Smart's amazing array of equipment including biscuits, knee boards, wake boards, ski's and more. It was great fun trying all the different ski's and our drivers worked tirelessly to keep everyone entertained.
Most evenings, following dinner, we went out for one last ski at dusk. The river at this time of the day has a lot less traffic which improves the skiing to no end. It is also a reasonably entertaining time of night. In one instance, a couple of lads from our party found it necessary to try their hand at nude skiing. A pastime not recommended for those prone to crashing....
The weather was perfect, each day averaged around 33 degrees so if we weren't swimming in the river, then we were swimming in the pools. The kids really improved their skills in the water and towards the end, Jess had started to swim semi-unassisted and was confident to hold her breath and duck dive underwater.
The Southern 80 Ski race runs in Echuca, early in February. At dusk we were lucky to see some of these highly tuned boats testing their engines by completing laps, up and down the river. The speed of these boats is incredible and the noise! I can see why the drivers were wearing helmets as they sped past us at an incredible rate of knots.
