REGION: Melbourne

Melbourne, Victoria is the capital of the 'Garden State'. Melbourne is located on Port Phillip, with the picturesque Yarra River meandering through it. By any standard, it is a sophisticated and vibrant city.

The grand-scale city architecture, wide streets, symmetrical grid design and formally landscaped parks and gardens are all legacies of the goldrushes in nearby Ballarat and Bendigo.

Melbourne's trams give the city an old-world charm. Quiet and pollution free, they are an efficient and attractive means of transport, quickly carrying passengers up and down the main thoroughfares. The free City Circle Tram transports visitors in a loop that takes in major CBD sights.

Melbourne's changeable climate is renowned, with the more marked seasonal changes giving the city its European feel. Large-scale immigration from Europe also adds to this atmosphere and, along with more recent immigration from South-East Asia, contributes to the diverse mix of cultures, foods and people, which make Melbourne the cosmopolitan city that it is today.

Melbourne Victoria is popular for holiday makers with a good selection of accommodation, hotels, tours and attractions for your holiday.
