REGION: Kangaroo Island

weirs-cove.jpg

The third largest island off the Australian coastline, Kangaroo Island is 155km long and 55km at its widest point, many visitors are surprised by its large size and its scenic beauty. Its reputation as a haven for native wildlife and flora is well deserved, with 30% of its total area covered by national parks.

Even in the peak summer season the island's size protects it from feeling crowded, although its small townships swell considerably. It offers a relaxed lifestyle and endless opportunities for water-based activities such as fishing, swimming, sailing, surfing, scuba diving and boating.

Wildlife is very visable with the opportunity to see little penguins, Australian sea-lions, New Zealand fur seals, platypus, 240 bird species, an abundance of koalas, and the kangaroos that the island is named after.
