- Home to an Aboriginal community, Hermannsburg lies 125km west of Alice Springs on the site of a Lutheran Mission; the first Aboriginal mission in the Northern Territory. It was once the home of painter Albert Namatjira for many years and while visitors are welcome they are restricted to the historic precinct, shop and petrol station.
