Return to New Norfolk

The Old Colony Inn offers bed and breakfast accommodation at New Norfolk, southern Tasmania. New Norfolk is 40 minutes (35 kilometres/22 miles) north west of Hobart in the Derwent Valley.

The Old Colony Inn offers accommodation in the Honeymoon Cottage – a restored colonial-style cottage suitable for two guests. The cosy cottage has an en suite bathroom, breakfast is provided and dinner can be arranged on request. The Old Colony Inn was originally built as a single storey hop cellar in 1815 and subsequently used as a school, gymnasium and barracks. It was extended and used as a private home in the 1930s. William Rees, an antique dealer and artist, bought the property in 1940 and developed it into an historic home and tearooms, furnished with antiques from around the world. Surrounded by English gardens, the Old Colony Inn also has a craft shop and is home to one of Australia’s largest antique doll’s houses. The tearoom serves home-made food all day, with evening meals available on the weekends.
