Adelaide Cabaret Festival - Adelaide CBD and Suburbs
The Adelaide Cabaret Festival offers the best international and local artists in the cabaret genre, with classic and contemporary cabaret performances.
See the Adelaide Festival Centre transformed into different cabaret venues - plus bars, cafes, restaurants, clubs and comfy nooks to chat and enjoy a drink. Some venues have tables and chairs where the audience may take drinks with them into the performances. The intimate atmosphere in the venues is evocative.
Each evening the late night action is at the Kool Kat Festival Club, where the drinks flow, the music is engaging, the dance floor is packed and many an artist can be glimpsed among the crowd.
In 2008, the headline acts included the delightful Maria Friedman, West End and Broadway leading lady for both Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber on her first visit to Australia; Broadway star (and daughter of Judy Garland), Lorna Luft; direct from the US, the writer of The Rose and many other hits, cabaret artiste Amanda McBroom; and French chanteuse and songwriter Belle du Berry.
2008's Cabaret Festival included more than 200 Australian artists with 140 of those South Australian performers. Overall, there were 100 performances of 45 different shows across the nine day festival.
The Adelaide Cabaret Festival has received rave reviews from the media, audiences and performers for its fabulous atmosphere. People come from across Australia and, increasingly, from overseas to join in the fun and kick up their heels. Stay tuned for announcements of the next Cabaret Festival's line up.
