Rail Trail Walk at Katherine - Katherine
An insight in to the railway history of the Katherine area.
The railway heritage walk involves a two hour walk along the path of the legendary North Australia Railway.
Starting from Stuart Estate, 5 kilometres north of Katherine, the walk passes fascinating geological formations that the railway surveyors skirted. The walk continues through Conroy's Gap to the historic location of Emungalan, which was established as the railhead town to service the area before the high level railway bridge was constructed to cross the Katherine River. During the walk, which finishes at Katherine’s 1926 railway station, participants will get an insight into the railway’s heritage from Territory railway expert Trevor Horman.
Entry of AUD5.00 donation goes towards maintaining Katherine’s heritage sites. Refreshments will be available at the railway station.
