Garroorigang Heritage Homestead was built in Garroorigang served first as an inn on the road to the Araluen goldfields.
In 1868 it was purchased by Samuel Belcher, and English classics master who had emigrated to Goulburn in 1862 and who established in the homestead a private school for the "sons of gentlemen". The school operated until 1883 during which time a number of distinguished Australians received their early education under Belcher. As a result of marriage the homestead became the private home of the Hume family, collateral descendants of the explorer, Hamilton Hume.
Garroorigang is unique for its original intact collection of early Australian colonial and Victorian furnishings reflecting its 150 years of living history.
Family members provide personally guided tours through the house and its collection. Group tours and individual visits are welcome, preferably with prior notice, especially for groups.
Parking is available inside the homestead grounds, including for coaches.
