DESTINATION: Port Denison

Settled in the early 1850s, Dongara is one of the state's oldest settlements. It, and Port Denison nearby are located on the Batavia Coast, 359km north of Perth. Local industries are agriculture and fishing, though natural gas, 6km east, also contributes to the region's economy.

Main Attractions

Dongara's Heritage Trail takes in 14 attractions including the old Police Station (1870), the Royal Steam Flour Mill (1894), and Russ Cottage (1870), a farm worker's cottage furnished in period-style. Port Denison is famed for its rock lobsters, excellent fishing, beautiful bays and safe beaches such as South Beach.
