DESTINATION: MandurahThe Indian Ocean and beautiful beaches have long lured holidaymakers to Mandurah, 74km south of Perth, where the Murray, Harvey and Serpentine rivers flow into the Peel Inlet and the Harvey Estuary. Once an important trading site for indigenous groups, 'Mandurah' is derived from an Aboriginal word 'mandjar' meaning 'meeting place'. Main AttractionsWater-based attractions and activities include estuary cruises (dolphins are regularly sighted), boating, swimming, waterskiing, jetskiing and fishing. A Historic Heritage Trail highlights significant buildings including the restored Hall's Cottage (1832) and Christ Church (1870), with its graveyard featuring pioneers' headstones. An old School (1898) houses the Community Museum. More active endeavours can be enjoyed on the western foreshore at King Carnival Amusement Park.
