Traralgon

Once a supply depot for the goldfields to the north, Traralgon, 163km SE of Melbourne, is now a principal regional centre in the Latrobe Valley.


Main Attractions

National Trust-classified buildings in the town include the Post Office and Court House, both dating from 1887, and Ryan's Hotel with its iron lacework balconies. Victory Park, on the banks of Traralgon Creek, offers a miniature railway for the young at heart.

There are many walking tours and heritage drives around the district. The information centre has details. The Festival of the Roses is held in November at Toongabbie, a small town 19km NE of Traralgon. Tours of the Loy Yang power station; one of the area's major employers, are available.
