Sassafras has always been a popular weekend destination for city dwellers since the area was first settled in 1894. How to get there
Sassafras is 45 minutes from Melbourne on the Burwood Highway through Upper Ferntree Gully. Travel east on the Monash Freeway from the city and exit at Ferntree Gully Road.

  • Visit the beautiful Alfred Nicholas or George Tindale gardens
  • Walk the 13-kilometre Sassafras Creek Forest Trail along the mountain stream to Emerald.
