DESTINATION: MoeThe gateway to the Latrobe Valley and alpine region, Moe, 134km SE of Melbourne, is a major tourism centre in the region known as the 'Centre for Adventure'. Main AttractionsMoe is home to Gippsland Heritage Park, a pioneer township with more than 35 buildings relocated from elsewhere in the Gippsland region. The park includes Bushy Park Homestead, the original home of Gippsland pioneer-explorer Angus McMillan; and an original Cobb & Co Coaching Inn from Pakenham East. Also part of the collection is a 2-storey iron-frame house, prefabricated (1850s) in England and shipped to Australia; the packing box was then used in the construction of the interior of the house. There is also an excellent collection of horse-drawn vehicles from the 1850s to the 1900s. All buildings are furnished in period-style. The Edward Hunter Reserve is an oasis in town featuring natural bushland with orchids. Brochures for self-guided walks around the town are available. |
