DESTINATION: KilmoreKilmore was founded in 1841 making it Victoria's oldest inland town. Located 60km north of Melbourne, Kilmore is known for its historic buildings. Many of the fine old stone buildings have been refurbished and some are now antique and specialty shops. Main AttractionsWhitburgh Cottage, built in 1857, is now a museum providing an insight into the lifestyle of a typical 19th-century family. The museum is open Sun, 2pm-4pm. Other historic buildings include the Post Office and old Court House, built in the early 1860s, and several main street shops and hotels dating back to the 1850s. Kilmore is renowned for its horseracing events and hosts the Kilmore Racing Cup and Kilmore Pacing Cup, Australia's richest provincial harness racing event. |

Nearby attractions
The Tramways Museum is located in Bylands, south of Kilmore. The museum has an extensive display of cable cars and early electric trams, and offers tram rides. It is open Sunday, 10am-5pm. On the Mount Piper Walking Track; a 1hr return walk; visitors will see a variety of wildlife and wildflowers. Strath Creek and Strath Creek Falls are also worthwhile exploring. From here visitors are urged to take the scenic drive through the Valley of a Thousand Hills.
