The renowned Healesville Sanctuary is located 4km south of town at Mount Riddell. Over 200 species of native birds, mammals and reptiles are displayed in their natural habitat. There are over 30 wineries throughout the Yarra Valley, all open for cellar door sales and tastings. Many of the larger wineries have restaurants attached. Wine tours of the Yarra Valley are also available. Yarra Ranges NP is east of the town and features mountain ash forest with an understorey of tree ferns. A rainforest gallery with an observation platform and walkway is provided on the slopes of Mount Donna Buang. Scenic drives include one through the forest over Black Spur, so-called because it was a route taken by displaced Aborigines. Maroondah Reservoir and the Badger and Donnelly weirs offer many bushland walks as well as picnic and BBQ facilities.
