DESTINATION: DonaldThis town is situated on the Richardson River, 286km NW of Melbourne. Wheat has long been the principal product of this part of the Wimmera, and grain silos still dominate the skyline. Main AttractionsDonald's history is preserved at the old Banyenong Police Camp, now an historic precinct located on the Sunraysia Hwy, near the Richardson River. The old police building, constructed by Johann Meyer in 1874, now houses the information centre. Tours of local industries include the Pea Company, Kooka's Country Cookies, Fair Mark Shirt Factory and The Belt Factory. The Agricultural Museum, on the corner of Borung Hwy and Mill St, has displays which include hand chaffcutters, shearing tables, a grubbing machine and a stump-jump plough. Lions Train Park, across the road, is the site of the old J524 class steam locomotive; BBQ facilities are provided. |

Apex Wayside Park, adjacent to the highway, has picnic and BBQ facilities. Encircled by the Richardson River, there are walking tracks throughout the park. In Byrne St, also beside the river, is Bullocks Head Lookout, so-called because a large growth on a box tree resembles a bullock's head. The Richardson River flows into Lake Buloke, a wetlands' area that attracts an array of wildlife. The lake is 10km north of the town.
