The town boasts a range of excellent accommodation. Retail and leisure facilities include a 3-star motel with restaurant, a tavern, modern shopping centre, bowls and golf course. The Olympic Dam and Mining Complex is 16km north of Roxby Downs. The opal fields of Andamooka are 30km east of town and offer an easy side trip. East of Andamooka (13km) is the northern tip of Lake Torrens, a vast, normally dry salt lake that stretches south, almost all the way to Port Augusta.
