DESTINATION: Port ElliotThis town is an ideal holiday destination within easy reach of Adelaide. Port Elliot was surveyed in 1852, and was briefly the major ocean port for goods moving up and down the Murray River. There are extensive beaches in the area that offer surfing and swimming opportunities. Main AttractionsWater-based leisure activities are well catered for and there is a range of accommodation overlooking Horseshoe Bay. The township boasts one of the smallest council chambers ever constructed and the National Trust has created a local Heritage Walk that passes quaint buildings and historic sites. Freeman's Knob, a small promontory at the southern end of the bay, is an excellent vantage point for coastal views. In winter it is a good spot for whale sightings. |
