Kingscote

The largest town on Kangaroo Island (110km south-west of Adelaide), Kingscote was actually the first European settlement in the state (1836). The island can be accessed from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw via the Kangaroo Island SeaLink vehicular ferry, or fly from Adelaide to Kingscote.

Main Attractions

For a historic look at the town, wander by Hope Cottage; the National Trust and Folk Museum; St Alban's Church with stained-glass windows and pioneer memorials; and the town cemetery, the oldest in the State. There is a variety of hotels, restaurants and cafes in town and for transport; cars, bicycles and scooters can be hired. The carved-out Rock Pool is a good swimming spot; for fishing try the jetty which is great for squid, tommy ruff, trevally, garfish, whiting and snook. Tours to see the little penguins depart from Ozone Seafront Hotel.
