DESTINATION: JamestownAround 205km from Adelaide, Jamestown is a picturesque town that serves a prosperous area in the state's Mid North. Farmers here produce sheep, cattle, wheat, barley and legumes. Timber from pine and eucalypt plantations at nearby Bundaleer Forest is also important to the local economy. Sir James Fergusson, Governor of South Australia 1869-1873, named the town after himself. Main AttractionsThe National Trust Museum preserves the past in the old Railway Station complex. Displays include mementos of the district's pioneering days as well as vintage railway equipment. There are self-guided town and cemetery walks worth taking. Belalie Creek, a beautiful, permanent watercourse, flows through Jamestown and creates a pleasant setting for picnics and BBQs. |

Bundaleer Forest Reserve, first established in 1875, is 9km south of the town. Here, forest walks, picnics and BBQs are popular activities, and there is a playground for children. Bushwalkers using the Heysen Trail may come upon the restored Curnow's Hut, which is available as accommodation. The Old Bundaleer Homestead, a classic rural mansion, is also located in the reserve. Beyond the forest, New Campbell Hill provides panoramic views towards Mount Remarkable.
