DESTINATION: EudundaThe township of Eudunda is just off the main road, in the rich farming area of the Lower Mid North. The town grew from a watering stop for stock brought overland from Queensland and New South Wales en route to Adelaide. It was the town's fresh-water springs that attracted the drovers. Main AttractionsThe Eudunda Town Walk passes by many heritage homes and public buildings, including historic Laucke Flour Mill, which still operates producing chaff. Maps of the walk are available from the Eudunda Family Heritage Gallery, 19 Bruce St, open Fri-Sun. A life-size sculpture of Colin Thiele, poet and writer of children's books, who was born in the town in 1920, is in Centenary Gardens opposite the Memorial Town Gardens. The town offers a number of sporting facilities. |

The more energetic explorers may want to climb the 100 steps to the top of the town lookout and view the wheat and grazing lands and mallee scrubs extending east towards the River Murray. Burra Creek Gorge picnic and camping grounds, 25min north of Eudunda via Point Pass and heading towards Burra, is a nature lover's paradise with small waterfalls and wildlife.
