DESTINATION: Edithburgh

Edithburgh

Located at the heel of the Yorke Peninsula, Edithburgh is an attractive tourist and fishing township overlooking Gulf St Vincent and Troubridge Island. The town enjoys a good reputation for the high standard and range of food available in local restaurants. Settled in the 1870s, the first 2 hotels; Troubridge and Edithburgh; are still standing in their original form. The town was once the centre of a thriving salt extraction industry based around Lake Fowler, one of the many salt lakes in the region.

Main Attractions

Edithburgh Museum concentrates on the official maritime history of the town as well as the history of salt scraping and the settlement's pioneers. The 17ha Native Flora Park on Ansty Tce, located near the town centre, is a haven for people, plants and birdlife. Of interest are the town jetty built in 1873 and the natural tidal pool.
