DESTINATION: CedunaSpread along the shores of beautiful Murat Bay, Ceduna is the eastern gateway to the Nullarbor Plain. Established in 1896, it is a fishing and oyster farming town, as well as the commercial centre for the pastoral and cereal-growing area of the Far West. The town is a popular stopover prior to, or after crossing the vast Nullarbor Plain. Main AttractionsThe Old School House Museum in Park Tce exhibits pioneer memorabilia and items from Maralinga, site of British atomic testing. Ceduna Arts and Cultural Centre, on Poynton St, features local art and craftwork. The Sea Dragon Art Gallery and the Memorial Hall also showcase works by local artists. The white sandy beaches of Ceduna are perfect for swimming and watersports. |

In winter, whale-watching excursions to the Great Australian Bight can be arranged through the visitor information centre. Whale Air also offers visitors a stunning birdseye view of whales and the coastal cliffs. At Denial Bay (13km west) are the McKenzie Ruins - site of the original settlement. Tours of Clear Water Oyster Farm are available. East of Ceduna, Wittelbee CP is an attractive combination of fine sandy beaches broken by low rocky headlands. Laura Bay CP is south-east of the town and offers a great walking track that explores the rocky headland, sandy cove and rockpools at low tide. Paul's Fish Factory at Thevenard Boat Haven has fresh seafood for sale.
