DESTINATION: ButeProclaimed in 1884, this quiet little town at the northern end of the Yorke Peninsula caters for the needs of the surrounding agricultural and pastoral districts. Local industries include the manufacture of farm machinery and a working tannery. Main AttractionsThe public is welcome at the Bute Tannery, which is located off Port Broughton Rd. A range of skins, hides and a variety of personal goods including ugg boots, belts, bags and sheepskin jackets are available. A picnic area with a fauna park housing native and other animals is located at Railway Tce. Gunner Bill's Gallery on Railway Tce has displays of arts and crafts and an historical gallery. An old well just off Kulpara Rd, used for watering stock in times past, is now of historic interest. |

Bute was finally put on the map by the famous Yorke Peninsula Machinery Field Days, which were first held near the township in 1895, making them the oldest event of their kind in Australia. Now a multimillion dollar biennial event, the field days are held in Paskeville to the south-west.
