This rural town, in the centre of the Callide Valley, is located 647km NW of Brisbane and is the largest town in the Banana Shire, which has no bananas.

Callide Dam, 5km NE, is ideal for BBQ's, boating, swimming and fishing. Callide 'B' Power Station is 15km east of town. Free 1hr guided tours of the station operate from the main gate, Tues-Fri, at 1.30pm. Mount Scoria lies 14km south. Its name comes from scoriaceous basalt, a type of volcanic rock which resembles fingers from an outstretched hand.
