DESTINATION: YoungThe 'Cherry Capital of Australia', Young is the centre of a district that primarily produces cherries for the table, but also grows and processes plums and has a small number of wineries. It was once one of the richest and most populated goldfields in New South Wales. Main AttractionsMany of Young's cherry orchards invite visitors to pick their own cherries and other fruit in season; containers are supplied. Some orchards have BBQ areas and other facilities. Burrangong Gallery has many changing exhibitions; located next to the information centre, it is open Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm; and weekends, 9.30am-4pm. Blackguard Gully, at the end of Whiteman Ave, is a dedicated fossicking area where you can pan for gold. J D's Jam Factory processes fruit into jams and other products. There are factory and orchard tours, a gift shop and Devonshire teas. Located in Grenfell Rd, the factory is open daily, 8am-6pm. |

Chinaman's Dam is 3km from Young. A section of it is being dedicated as a 'Chinese Tribute Garden'. Wine produced in the Hilltops Wine Region of Young, Harden and Boorowa, is available in local outlets and some of the wineries have tastings and cellar door sales.
