DESTINATION: TareeThis town is the commercial and administrative centre for the prosperous dairying, grazing, timber, fishing, oyster and tourist district of the Manning Valley. Located at the southern end of the North Coast, 326km north of Sydney, Taree is rewarding for both sightseers and shoppers and is just a short detour off the Pacific Hwy. Main AttractionsWith 150km of navigable waterways, the Manning River is a popular venue for houseboating, cruising, rowing, sailing, waterskiing and fishing. In 1995, the river was the focus of worldwide media attention when a Brydes whale, 'Willy', stayed here for 100 days. Queen Elizabeth Park, edging the river, is an ideal spot for a picnic in the city centre. There is an interesting art gallery located on Macquarie St. |
