Narromine

A compact rural town on the southern bank of the Macquarie River, Narromine is located 40km west of Dubbo. The pastoral and wheat-growing country of the Macquarie Valley also produces cotton, citrus fruit, sorghum and vegetables (tomatoes and corn) as the area is so well irrigated.


Main Attractions

The information centre has many details on tours, including visits to Narromine Citrus-Packing Shed, Trangie Cotton Gin, Yates plant-breeding station, historic Narromine Aerodrome, and Auscott Cotton Gin and Cotton Fields. There is a self-guided tour following the Cobb & Co route. The centre also sells a range of clothing made from locally grown cotton.

Garden lovers will want to visit Swane's Rose Nursery, only 5km west of town. There are old-fashioned and heritage roses as well as modern and miniature forms. The nursery has also produced a special rose for Narromine called 'Heart of Gold'. Also worthwhile visiting is the Narromine Iris Farm, which displays over 700 varieties of the plant. There is a BBQ area and free coffee and tea. Gin Gin Weir is an attractive beach and picnic area on the banks of the Macquarie River, 30km NW of Narromine. Free bush-camping spots with toilets are available for public use.
