Merimbula

At the northern entrance of Merimbula Lake, 25km north of Eden, lies the fishing and tourist town of Merimbula. Popular for fishing, prawning and surfing, the town attracts many visitors. There are 3 surf beaches and sheltered lake beaches. Boats can be hired and reef- and game-fishing trips leave from Merimbula Lake. From late October to mid-December, there are whale-watching excursions.

An aquarium is housed in an historic wharf building on Lake St and is open daily from 10am-5pm. Arts and crafts are popular in the region and a number of outlets sell local works.

Magic Mountain Family Recreation Park is located 5km north on Sapphire Coast Drive and is open daily 10am-4pm in summer and holidays. It features heated waterslides, mini golf, a toboggan run and a mini-grand prix. There are 2 national parks in the district; Bournda and Ben Boyd. Both are coastal parks and offer many walking tracks, swimming and fishing spots. At Pambula Beach, 10km south, there is a walking track, lookout and beach horseriding. Early morning and late afternoon if you are quiet and still, you may see kangaroos and wallabies on the foreshore.
