DESTINATION: Junee

Junee

An agricultural and grazing town, Junee is also an important rail centre for southern New South Wales. The railway track runs through the middle of the CBD and the station, built in 1883, is an impressive Renaissance-style building.

Main Attractions

Railway memorabilia and the district's pioneering history are preserved in the Historical Society Museum, now located in the old Broadway Hotel in Broadway. The museum is open Tuesday and Thursday, 2pm-4pm. The Junee Roundhouse Museum incorporates the largest operational roundhouse in Australia. It features a 32m turntable, the original workshop, heritage transport displays, memorabilia and a large model train layout. Guided tours and light refreshments are available. Memorial Park, located beside the railway crossing, is an attractive spot for a picnic. Endeavour Park, on the Olympic Way south of the town centre, has an interesting hedge maze and a pond.
