DESTINATION: Jindabyne

Jindabyne

The gateway to the alpine ski resorts, Jindabyne lies on the shores of the man-made Lake Jindabyne. The original township was beside the Snowy River. In 1962, to create Lake Jindabyne, the site of the old township was flooded to form a water storage area as part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme.

Main Attractions

While being a good base for visiting the ski resorts, Jindabyne also attracts visitors during summer. Activities at this time of year include bushwalking, trout fishing, sailing, sailboarding, waterskiing, canoeing and swimming. There is also a walkway and cycleway around part of Lake Jindabyne's foreshore.

White water rafting in the summertime, Snowy Mountains
by admin
Part of the New South Wales section of the Great Dividing Range, the Snowy Mountains are approximately 160km long and 80km wide. Much of the rugged terrain is 900m or more above sea level, with the mountainous ridge rising to 2228m at Mount Kosciuszko, the highest point in Australia. Although the Snowy Mountains are situated in New South Wales, they are close to the Australian Capital Territory and their southern boundary extends to the Victorian border. more
