DESTINATION: HuskissonA flourishing little tourist and fishing town lying in the curve of Jervis Bay, Huskisson is the main shopping and accommodation centre in the district. Around 24km SE of Nowra, Huskisson is a popular destination for families as it offers easy access to the clear waters of the bay and all facilities. Popular watersports include swimming, sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving and fishing. Main AttractionsMany visitors spend time on the beaches that line the shore of Jervis Bay. Regular dolphin-watching cruises leave from Huskisson Wharf. Anglers can hire boats or fish from the beach, rocks or riverbank. Those interested in the history of boat-building, should visit the Lady Denman Heritage Complex in Dent St. The Lady Denman, a Sydney Harbour ferry built at Huskisson and launched in 1911, is the centrepiece of the Lady Denman Museum within the complex. Laddie Timbery's Aboriginal Art and Craft Centre is also located in the complex. Local Koori artists make works on site. The award-winning complex also features a stand of spotted gum trees, freshwater and saltwater wetlands, the Wirreecoo Walking Trail, mangrove boardwalk and fish feeding in the harbour. |
