DESTINATION: Dungog

First settled in the 1820s, Dungog is 225km from Sydney. This rural township is the service centre for surrounding logging, dairying, beef cattle and deer-farming industries. Dungog is also on the main southern route into Barrington Tops NP. This World Heritage-listed park offers a diversity of landscapes, including subtropical rainforests with refreshing clear-water rivers, a mountainous plateau, and at approximately 1000m are spectacular Antarctic beech forests. There are many walking tracks to beautiful waterfalls and lookouts. Camping is permitted at a number of designated camping areas.

Chichester Dam and Chichester SF lie 23km NE of the town. The dam, opened in 1985, has picnic areas and walking trails. Telegherry Forest Park, located 30km north, offers walking trails along the Telegherry River with picnic, swimming and camping spots. One of the first European settlements in Australia, Clarence Town historical village is 24km SE of Dungog.
