DESTINATION: DeniliquinSituated on the Edward River, this southern Riverina town is surrounded by extensively irrigated farmland producing wheat, canola, barley, sheep, pigs and cattle. Wool and rice are the region's main products, with the rice processed at the Deniliquin Mill, the largest rice mill in the Southern Hemisphere. Main AttractionsThe Mill's SunRice Country Centre explains the industry through an audiovisual presentation and afterwards there is the opportunity to taste the various rice products. SunRice Centre operates Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm. Public presentations are at 9.30am and 2.45pm daily. A brochure about the self-guided historical and nature walk is available at the information centre. On the Hay Road north of town is Pioneer Tourist Park. The park incorporates a garden centre; craft gallery; and a display of restored antique steam engines, petrol pumps and pioneer pumping equipment from the Snowy Mountains Scheme, Deniliquin and South Australia. |
